The Quantum Age
In the year 2018 A.D., Earth’s scientists begin experimenting with a technology called “quantum tunneling”, a technology that would one day be used to transport living matter across great distances throughout the galaxy. In the early days, when the use of the technology was extremely expensive, a single tunnel would have used the combined output of 25 nuclear fission reactors; an inordinately expensive cost.
Conventional methods of space travel were, however, proven inadequate to the task of exploration and expansion simply due to the fact that these methods were too slow and thus, the scientists continued their research on quantum tunneling, for it would eventually prove to be the only practical means of space travel. Large strides are made in the field of quantum tunneling, and the first tunneled is of a single atom of cesium in a lab. Soon after that, a milligram of iron is tunneled to a scientific laboratory on Mars.
These experiments prove to be the first successes in what is to become a revolutionary method of transportation. Scientists start working up the food chain by teleporting a wide range of life forms, beginning from insects, to mice and eventually primates. The tunneling of the first humans happens in 2062 when a group of astronauts volunteers to explore the surface of Neptune’s largest moon, Triton. The quantum tunnel takes approximately 0.26 seconds to transport the men.
Due to this technology, mankind is able to expand his reach throughout the galaxy, colonizing moons and planets through a variety of tunnel networks, radiating from the Earth. By the year 2284 A.D., 16 colonies (also known as the Prime Worlds) have been established, and by the year 2316 A.D., each of these 16 colonies begins their own expansion. More than 210 years later, 110 colonies begin their expansions and mankind as we know it is established far throughout the galaxy. Up to this point, no alien life has been discovered.
